“Daddy, you are everything to me. I don’t know what I’d do without you. Who would take care of the baby and me if you die? I don’t mean to sound selfish, but we need you more than you think old man. When you come home, there will be changes to our diets and our exercise regimen. For one, like implementing an exercise regimen,” I started laughing at my corny humor and my father cracked a weak smile. He started waving at me and telling me to go home and get some rest. As I left the emergency room patient area, I was happy that my father was going to make it, however, saddened that this had to happen. I felt guilty. I was feeling that it was all my fault for telling him the truth about Damarius.

Hanging my head down walking towards the exit, which would lead me out to the street, I heard a familiar voice. It was Damarius. He was with Niqua and little Taheim. I went out of their eyesight and eavesdropped for a moment. I heard her telling Damarius that her lower back has been hurting for a while and she has been having severe stomach pains. She was hoping the baby was alright. He lovingly reassured her that everything would be fine. He was pretty sure she was just experience pregnancy growing pains.

“Yea, you right bae,” Niqua affectionately replied in return. I peeked my head to see the expression on his face. I caught the tail end of a kiss she planted softly on his lips then she gently patted his knee. I leaned my head back and banged it a couple of times as my dad did earlier. I wanted to run over there and slap the shit out of both of them. I wasn’t going to let Damarius get away with playing house with Niqua or only loving the children he had with Niqua all the while denying the one growing in my belly. It was time I put some real pressure on Mr. Damarius Fuller.

I looked in the glass window and smoothed back my hair so it didn’t look so wild. I licked my lips and tugged at my clothes, praying I looked presentable. I waltzed my ass from out my hiding spot, acted like I was going to ask the security guard a question then casually turned my head in their direction.

Acting surprised, I gasped and threw my hand up to my heart while saying, “Oh shoot. Get out of dodge. Look at what the cat drug in around this part?”

The family trio all stopped gawking at each other long enough to acknowledge me.

“Sorry, you are?” was Niqua’s crude reply. Her tone was dripping with sarcasm.

“Oh chill Niqua. That’s Turron’s little cousin, Ish,” Damarius said, trying to save himself from getting busted.

“Oh, okay,” she said laughing slightly. “Sorry for your loss Ish boo, Turron was like family. I bet his moms is taking it hard, huh?”

“Yea, boo. You know how that go.
